C and S leader wants FRC Act annulled

His Grace, Most Revd (Prophet) Samuel Adefila Abidoye, the spiritual father and chairman, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (Worldwide) has added his voice to those opposed to the new legal requirements by the Financial Regulations Council (FRC) guiding all registered churches, mosques and civil society organisations (CSOs). He urged the Federal Government to go beyond “suspending and putting on hold the operations of the said code, rather the same should be completely annulled and disbanded.”
Prophet Abidoye spoke Friday at a press briefing on the new code at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

The cleric frowned at the attempt by some government officials to meddle in matters pertaining to church administration through “the obnoxious and embarrassing anti-Christian law and regulation”.

He commended the Federal Government for promptly suspending the code which was aimed at frustrating the church from discharge its spiritual obligations to the faithful. “Things pertaining to the things of the kingdom, especially the headship of the Christian churches are the prerogative of the Lord,” he stressed.

The spiritual leader advised the government to focus on making democratic dividend by way of infrastructural development, educational and employment opportunities available to the teeming Nigerians who are yearning for these, particularly the youths roaming the streets in search of non-existent jobs. He said if these were provided, insecurity would greatly reduce in the country.

Prophet Abidoye is particularly distressed by the sufferings of the average Nigerian, some of whom cannot boast of one square meal a day in the same country where some public functionaries now bury money underground since the banks are becoming unsafe for safe-keeping of such monies, which are usually ill-gotten.

The FRC Act has generated controversy in the country since January 7, when the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye stepped down from the office as a result of its provision mandating spiritual leaders who had attained 70 years or had served in that capacity for 20 years to resign.

Pastor Adeboye consequently named Pastor Joseph Obayemi as the G.O. of the Nigerian branch while he assumes duty as the Spiritual Head and Global Missioner of the church.

Prophet Abidoye commended the Muhammadu Buhari administration for its sustained war against corruption which has done so much damage to the country but wants the government to do more.
He wished the president and his cabinet members as well as all Nigerians “a divine visitation, total recovery and favour beyond hindrance” this year.
