Five Arrested For Selling Rice Donated To IDPs In Borno

The spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Thursday, revealed that a Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Mafa Local Government in Borno and four others have been arrested over alleged diversion of 300 bags of rice for Internally Displayed Persons.

According to the EFCC spokesman, the arrest was triggered by intelligence report and some of the suspects had confessed that the rice, donated to the IDPs by Danish Refugee Council, an NGO, was sold to two traders in the area at the rate of N8,500 per bag.

The EFCC spokesman said that three other suspects involved in the diversion were still at large.
