According to Punch, the man driving a Ford utility
sport vehicle with registration number GCE 342 CX was trying to avoid
two children that were crossing the road when he ran into seven people
buying beans cake (akara) at the Ukana Ikot Etim Junction.
He said when witnesses approached the driver, it was discovered that he was drunk. He said the driver was apprehended and handed over to police men of the Ikot Ekpene Police Command.
The witness further said the seven persons who were hit in the unfortunate accident were returning from church.
An eyewitness, Godwin Anthony, said five out of the seven bystanders the
vehicle crashed into died instantly while two others sustained serious
injuries.
