Trump's White House senior strategist Steve Bannon fired

On Friday, Trump accepted Bannon’s resignation ending his seven months as Trump's chief strategist.

Before Bannon was removed, there had been leaks about his fate and a Trump ally revealed the leaks were part of an effort to pressure the White House aide to step down.

Reports stated that Donald Trump had decided to remove him from his role but that the White House was trying to work out the details.

President Trump fuelled speculation that Bannon will be removed after he was asked about Bannon's future last week and he replied, "We'll see."

Mr Bannon's interview this week with the American Prospect magazine reportedly infuriated Trump after the White House aide was quoted as claiming he had the power to fire officials at the State Department. He also contradicted Trump on North Korea.

Bannon has been seen as the senior White House official pushing President Trump to some of his most far right views on healthcare and immigration. He was a key adviser in Trump’s general election campaign and helped shape the "America First" message of Trump's election campaign. He is also known to be the one pushing Trump to follow through on his campaign promises as he was the man behind many of Trump's most controversial efforts, including the travel ban and decision to pull out of the Paris Climate agreement.

But Bannon repeatedly clashed with other top White House advisers and often ran afoul of the president himself. He offered his resignation to Trump on August 7, according to one person close to the adviser.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that Friday was Bannon's last day.
Her statement said: "White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve's last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best."
