Contrary to insinuations that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s recent visit to
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was to pave way for his eventual defection
to the All Progressives Congress (APC), erstwhile spokesperson of
Sheriff group, Bernard Mikko, insists they are still members of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mikko also denied any meeting with APC national chairman, John
Oyegun, stressing that Sheriff’s visit to Osinbajo “was purely on
national state matters and had nothing to do with politics.”
Meanwhile, the APC chairman, Odigie-Oyegun has also distanced himself
from Sheriff’s visit to Aso Rock. Some reports had claimed that both
Odigie-Oyegun and Sheriff met with Osinbajo, in connection with
Sheriff’s purported moves to rejoin the APC.
On the nexus between the visit and recent defection of the former
Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Cairo Ojougboh, who was a staunch
supporter of Sheriff, Mikko explained that Ojougbo informed him of his
intention to join APC in Delta State, adding that as a politician he
took what he considered his best decision.
